The Japan Association of Private Universities and Colleges was established in 1951, with the purpose of contributing to the mission of higher learning, through the mutual cooperation of all members in protecting the freedom and authority of private institutions of higher education, promoting and improving the seats of higher learning, and serving the progress of science and culture.

Its current affiliation comprises 123 private Universities and Colleges offering four-year/six-year academic programs.

The Association engages in such activities as:

  1. Mutual assistance and information exchange regarding research and education at Universities and Colleges.
  2. Research in college and university administration.
  3. Publication of bulletins and other materials on Universities and Colleges administration and research and education.
  4. Other activities relating to the well-being of faculty, staff and students of Universities and Colleges.
